Impact of quarantine and lockdown on mental health

Besides the vigorous impact of lockdown in our economy, the lockdown and quarantine can have a strong impact on mental health too. The complete lockdown has its own pros and cons, On one hand, it is saving lives but on the other hand, people are getting frustrated. This entire prevailing COVID-19 lockdown can have an adverse mental health impact but quarantine is particularly finicky due to the desolation that goes along with it. Furthermore, being at home, inability to go anywhere, working from home or not going out with friends tend to give us a lot of time to think (overthink) and in this situation, too much time to think can lead us down anxiety disorder and when people have a lot of time on their hands, their brains can run wild and that does no good to anybody. Afterall, overthinking is the biggest reason for unhappiness.

The families who have a disabled child or a member with health issues have to face this most intolerable situation wherein, they feel helpless, concentration becomes the toughest part of the day and surviving each day trying to be happy is no joke.

Let’s digest the fact that we are going through a comprehensive lockdown and take some time to smile. It’s absolutely alright to laugh during this time. This part of life is never going to come back so it’s okay to binge-watch your favourite TV show. Go watch movies, documentaries you have been planning to watch for a long time. Go out on your balcony or lawn and spend some time with flowers, plants and look at the stars at night while holding a nice cup of coffee or tea and don’t forget to take a deep breath because nature is the best healer and If you wish to get lost in another world, sit on a cosy chair and read a fictional book.

Take steps to build a positive aura and narrow the scope to the immediate future in order to maintain the possible longer-term anxiety. It takes a lot of calculated effort for some, less for others, but keeping ourselves happy at this moment is highly prescribed.
